Persistent facial redness, rosacea, and visible capillaries are conditions that can have a significant impact on how a person feels about their skin. They are also conditions where the right clinical approach makes a meaningful difference.
Understanding Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by persistent facial redness, flushing, visible blood vessels, and in some cases inflammatory papules and pustules. It most commonly affects the central face.
Common triggers include sun exposure, heat, alcohol, spicy foods, exercise, temperature extremes, stress, and inappropriate skincare products. Identifying and managing individual triggers is an important part of rosacea management alongside clinical treatment.
Rosacea is a manageable but not curable condition. The aim of treatment is to reduce the severity and frequency of flares, improve the visible appearance of redness and vessels, and support the skin’s tolerance over time.
Visible Capillaries and Broken Vessels
Visible capillaries, also called telangiectasia, are small dilated blood vessels that appear on the surface of the skin, most commonly on the nose and cheeks. While harmless, many patients find them cosmetically distressing. They respond very well to targeted laser treatment.
Cherry angiomas are small, benign vascular lesions appearing as bright red or purple raised spots. They are extremely common, increase in frequency with age, and can be effectively treated with targeted laser energy.
Treatment Options
Excel V+
Excel V+ is the primary treatment platform for vascular concerns at Aecera. Isolated lesions may respond well to one or two sessions. For more diffuse redness or rosacea, a series of four to six treatments spaced approximately six weeks apart is typically recommended.
Medical management
Medical management may be recommended alongside laser treatment for patients with inflammatory rosacea. The dermatologist-led structure of the clinic means prescription therapies can be integrated into the treatment plan where appropriate.
Laser Genesis
Laser Genesis provides a supporting role in rosacea management, particularly for diffuse redness, flushing, and general skin quality. It is well suited to patients who prefer a lower-intensity option or who want to maintain improvement between Excel V+ treatments.
