Rejuran is a skin treatment containing polynucleotides (PN), which are biocompatible molecules that work at a cellular level to support the skin’s natural repair processes, improving skin quality, resilience, and overall integrity.
Polynucleotides are derived from highly purified salmon DNA fragments. Despite being commonly referred to online as a “salmon sperm facial,” the product does not contain salmon sperm. The DNA fragments are sourced from the gonad tissue of wild salmon, then processed and purified into a clear, colourless, and odourless formulation.
Polynucleotides work by stimulating fibroblast cells within the dermis to produce collagen, elastin, and other structural proteins. Rather than targeting muscle activity or adding volume, Rejuran is designed to enhance the condition of the skin itself.
What does it treat?
Rejuran is used to address fine lines, reduced skin elasticity, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and areas of skin damage including acne scarring. It is well suited to the face, neck, and delicate areas such as under the eyes. It is commonly used in combination with other treatments as part of a broader skin health programme.
What does the treatment feel like?
The treatment involves a series of small fine-gauge needle placements delivered into the skin. A topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. Some patients may still experience mild pressure or stinging during the procedure.
What is the recovery like?
Immediately after the procedure, small raised bumps similar to mosquito bites, redness, and mild swelling are common. These typically settle within 24 to 48 hours. Some patients may experience light bruising at treatment sites lasting a few days.
What aftercare is required?
The treated area should be kept clean and cool for the first 24 hours. Sun exposure should be avoided and broad-spectrum SPF applied daily. Strenuous exercise and heat exposure should be avoided for 24 hours. Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment.
How long does the appointment take?
The procedure takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Numbing cream is applied 30 minutes prior to treatment. Patients should allow approximately one hour for the full appointment.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients benefit from three treatments spaced three to four weeks apart (up to four for more significant concerns). Maintenance of one to two sessions per year is recommended.
