Pico Laser: Enlighten SR – Aecera

Pico Laser: Enlighten SR

The Enlighten SR is an advanced picosecond laser that delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to the skin, allowing for highly targeted treatment of pigmentation with minimal impact on surrounding tissue. Unlike traditional lasers which rely primarily on heat, picosecond technology uses a combination of light and pressure to break pigment into extremely fine particles that the body can naturally clear.

The Enlighten SR is available with two distinct treatment protocols:

PicoGenesis for pigmentation and skin rejuvenation, and PicoGenesis FX using the MLA handpiece for skin texture, acne scarring, and deeper resurfacing.

What does PicoGenesis treat?

PicoGenesis is used to address sun damage, age spots, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. It also improves overall skin clarity and brightness, making it well suited to patients seeking general skin rejuvenation alongside targeted pigmentation treatment.

The primary driver of melasma is sun exposure, particularly in the Australian climate. Hormonal changes and genetic predisposition are recognised as secondary contributing factors. PicoGenesis is an effective treatment for melasma, though it requires ongoing management and consistent sun protection to maintain improvement.

What does the treatment feel like?

PicoGenesis is a comfortable treatment. Most patients describe a mild warmth or gentle tingling as the laser pulses are delivered. Numbing cream is not routinely required but can be applied if preferred.

What is the recovery like?

Minimal downtime is associated with PicoGenesis. Some redness and mild sensitivity are expected for 24 hours. Targeted pigmented spots may appear temporarily darker in the days following treatment before fading as the body clears the fragmented pigment. This darkening is a normal and expected part of the process.

What aftercare is required?

Daily broad-spectrum SPF is essential following PicoGenesis. Direct sun exposure should be avoided for at least 48 hours. A gentle skincare routine is recommended, and active ingredients should be paused until the skin has settled.

How long does a session take?

A PicoGenesis treatment for the full face takes approximately 30 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

A course of four to six treatments spaced approximately six weeks apart is recommended. Melasma and more complex pigmentation may require ongoing maintenance.

Your Consultation

At consultation, the practitioner will assess your pigmentation and advise whether PicoGenesis is the most appropriate approach. Realistic expectations will be established, particularly for melasma. There is no obligation to proceed.

What is PicoGenesis FX (MLA Handpiece)?

PicoGenesis FX uses the MLA handpiece to fractionate the laser energy, creating controlled micro-injury within the skin. This stimulates a more intensive collagen and elastin response, making it effective for skin texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and overall skin resurfacing.

What does the treatment feel like?

PicoGenesis FX is a more intensive treatment, and numbing cream is recommended prior to the procedure. Patients typically describe a stronger warming or prickling sensation during the treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

A course of four to six treatments spaced approximately six weeks apart is recommended.

What is the recovery like?

Redness and mild swelling are expected for one to three days. Some patients experience temporary frosting of the skin immediately after treatment, which is a normal response and settles quickly. Light flaking as the skin renews is expected in the days following treatment.
